Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after that period of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one various competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour championship, took control to create a decider.

He defended 4 early break points in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
